ABOUT US

Gan Nitzanim - JEWISH DAYCARE IN THORNHILL

Gan Nitzanim Child Care Centre is a licensed daycare that provides a stimulating educational environment for children between the ages of 18 months to 6 years from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm.  We offer a bi-lingual program; both in English and in Hebrew. Our curriculum prepares the children not only academically but also in the area of physical and emotional development, creativity, and oral expression; through discovery, play, inquiry, and experimentation. Growth in all the above areas is fostered through a Judaic and secular curriculum as we engage the children as co-learners in child initiated, teacher supported, play-based learning and use the guidelines of the How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years Document (2014) to guide our practice.

At Gan Nitzanim Child Care Centre it is our main objective to meet the needs of each individual child as well as the group. We recognize and support the uniqueness of each child and view children as competent, capable, curious and rich in potential.  We encourage the children to be independent and responsible for their own behaviour. When appropriate, we expect them to solve their own problems with teacher supervision. Through this, we support self-esteem and guide positive interaction with adults and other children. We also encourage the children to make decisions, act on those decisions and later reflect on them.
At Gan Nitzanim there will be special attention given to each individual child’s emotional needs. Gan Nitzanim teachers will foster a consistent, gentle, caring, trusting, and healthy environment by providing warmth and affection. The class groupings are small enough so that no child is overlooked. We aim to make each child feel comfortable, engaged, and valued at all times.

At Gan Nitzanim Child Care Centre we see children and their families as active participants in all aspects of the program. We have an open door policy with Parents.  We work to foster a positive relationship with the parents to build a bridge between home and school.  The success of our curriculum is based on a joint effort between the parents, teachers, and the children.

Consistent with the four Ministry of Education pedagogy foundations (Belonging, well-being, engagement, and expression), our view of the child is as follows:

  • Every child has a sense of belonging when he or she is connected to others and contributes to their world.

  • Every child is developing a sense of self, health, and well-being.

  • Every child is an active and engaged learner who explores the world with body, mind, and senses.

  • Every child is a capable communicator who expresses himself/herself in various ways.
